Who We Are

The FMCU was founded on July 23, 1948, by a small group of civilian employees at Fort McPherson, Georgia. The Credit Union's first "vault" was a cigar box that held both the Credit Union's cash assets and its important papers. For many years, the Credit Union had no home; finally it was given a small space in Building 205, a World War II era building that housed the Civilian Club; The FORSCOM Headquarters Building now occupies the site formerly occupied by Building 205. The Credit Union subsequently moved to Building 116, where it remained until 1992, when it moved to its present location at 1732 Walker Avenue. The Dental Clinic now occupies the site formerly occupied by Building 116.

The FMCU was begun by a handful of individuals with a few dollars and now has more than 8,000 active members and approximately $23,000,000.00 in assets. Although most of the Credit Union's members live near Fort McPherson or Fort Gillem, the Credit Union has members all over the world; anywhere you find a soldier, you might find a member of the FMCU.

Although many people have played a role in the growth of the FMCU, two individuals, Bill Gordon and Virginia Null, more than anyone else, guided the Credit Union as it grew. In recognition of their service to the Credit Union, the Credit Union building was dedicated to Bill Gordon. In the Spring of 2000, the Board of Directors voted to name the conference room the Virginia Null Conference Room.

In July 2002, The FMCU had the honor of merging with The East Point Municipal Employees Credit Union in East Point Georgia.

In July 2007, The FMCU had the honor of merging with Marta Employees Federal Credit Union; which brought us about 4,000 new members and still growing.

Locations change; faces change. One thing that does not change is FMCU's commitment to serving those who serve America. Remember, FMCU is owned by its members and will continue to strive to be the source for all of your financial needs.
